Well, if you know my mom or have known my family for awhile then you know about sticky buns!! My mom would make them for special occasions and you pretty much felt special if she made you some...they are soooo yummy!! And they take a WHOLE LOT of work. My sister and I found that out last weekend.
My dad came in town and so her and my dad came over on Sunday night and stayed till Monday. The boys were very excited to have Papaw and Aunt Kristen over for a visit. We didn't do too much just hang out and play...but, that is always fine with us. Kristen and I had planned on making sticky buns because she has told all her friends and coworkers about them, but never made them. So, we thought we'd give it a try. I have made them before ONCE. So, I wasn't much of an expert to help my sister, but I thought we could do it...we both love to bake and eat baked goods : )
Well, I should have also known that my sister and I are interesting partners...pretty much anytime we do something together we end up laughing the whole time and have a hard time finishing things...try playing volleyball with us...you don't want us on your team!
Since it was MLK day off, Kevin said that he could watch the boys and keep them out of the kitchen while we baked...he took the boys outside and cleaned the car with Papaw. And Kristen and I did our best at making sticky buns...it really is true, its just not the same as moms. But, we gave it a valiant effort. We had a little difficulty for some reason with the mixing the dough part which turned into my sister using all of her effort to knead the dough afterwards...she's quite a strong girl and she was getting a workout..it was a little tough. Then, we cooked the molasses just a little too long and it almost turned into candy.
We did finish them and they ended up turning out pretty good...not as perfect as our moms and much more tiring then just being able to enjoy them, but decent enough. I took mine to my Bible study and heated them up the next morning and the ladies seemed to enjoy them. So, it wasn't a total bust...Kristen was not willing to share hers with her coworkers until she can get them just right. She's going to Florida in a few weeks so she can learn from the master of Sticky Buns! I'm willing to try and make them again for sure, just not for awhile.

Thanks for the laugh! Sounds like something fun to do, but I have to agree, it's much more enjoyable just to eat them! Love you!
Yummy!!! They look good even if they didn't turn out exactly as you wanted.
