P is for Pop

The whole family went to the farm yesterday to do some fruit picking! Oh, I was in heaven. This was a pretty big farm and they had lots of fruit to pick. We picked 33 lbs of peaches, some nectarines, and 6 1/2 lbs of blackberries. We also bought corn on the cob, zucchini, and a watermelon!! I love fresh fruit in the summer...it is so wonderful! I could have picked fruit so much longer yesterday, but it was time for Abigail to eat and we honestly can only eat or freeze so much fruit. So, we had to stop and go get some lunch. It was a very fun adventure! The boys had blackberry juice all over them!

So, today, my wonderful husband made me blackberry jam and peach jam!! He made 3 batches of jam filling 34 jars. We had talked about making 1 batch of jam today together...while I napped this afternoon, Kevin read on the internet how to make jam, made an egg casserole for dinner and took care of the boys. Yes, he is the best husband ever!!!

I wish I could say that I made the jam as I enjoy making it, but Kevin was already getting the peaches ready when I woke up from my nap and he was rearing to get started, so I just helped out a little bit. And Caleb helped with mashing the fruit. As I was feeding Abigail, I heard the popping of the jars and was getting even more excited about our jam. The popping sound meant that the jars were sealing and I will have jam for a few months. It is music to my ears and tummy!! Caleb is all excited about having jam for lunch and so am I!! I asked Kevin why he decided to make so much jam and he said:

1. Because he loves me very much!
2. Because he bought me 36 jam jars from Walmart. com when we were in Germany and had them shipped to Germany so I could make jam in Germany....no jam was made. God blessed us with 2 little boys and therefore no time to make jam. Then, the jars were moved to Ohio...no jam made there...then, moved to Maryland. So, he was happy to FINALLY have jam made in these jars : )
3. Because he felt like a pioneer back in the day making homemade jam! : )

The boys have been watching a new video called The Letter Factory and they love it. It teaches the letter sounds...therefore, we have been singing the sounds of the letters lately. One of their favorites is P is for popping corn.

Sounds yummy! I LOVE homemade jam! I think my mom will be making some plum jam soon. Their new house has lots of fruit trees and berry bushes. And I'm glad the boys got "The Letter Factory". The girls love that video and have learned a LOT from it! Even Aya Jo goes around the house singing the sounds of the letters. :)
