Gators, gators, gators!!!

So I grew up in Florida and don't remember seeing any alligators. But, I have now lived here 8 months and have seen 3 alligators up close. The boys went alligator hunting in February with Kevin and a Christian group on the base land, but they did not catch an alligator.  So the boys went again with Kevin last Thursday and the men on base who are experienced in alligator hunting and they caught an 8 foot alligator.  So, they stopped at our house to show us it before they took it to a place to get the meat and skin.

Last Saturday, we went to a state park here...I can't believe we did not take our friend from Ohio on a hike at this park.  I guess she will have to come back for more Florida adventures. We saw a little 3 foot alligator on our hike.  That is when I actually said that alligators can be cute, but only when they are still and sunning themselves and 3 feet long.

Then on Sunday, we were driving home from church and we spotted an alligator sunning itself by the little pond by the entrance to our neighborhood. So the kids and I went and took some pics.

Totally cool!!!! The alligator by the neighborhood pond doesn't look that small. Did you get any alligator meat from the hunt? If so, have you cooked any of it? Is it good? Little alligators are cute. But after they're more than a few feet, I'd probably keep my distance. :) And, I'll come back anytime you want. :)

Kevin said he thought it was 6 or 7 feet. Definitely viewing it from a distance. We haven't seen it this week at all. Wondering if it moved somewhere else. Kevin said they will walk miles to go to another body of water. So, we'll keep an eye out for it.

Oooh! I would love to taste alligator meat. Alligators are such interesting creatures, and the little ones are definitely quite cute.
